About the Centre
One of only 100 transit villages in the United States, Contra Costa Centre is a nationwide model for smart planning. The Centre has provided economic growth, affordable housing and a 30% decrease in traffic congestion to the area.
Transit-Oriented Development
Through Public and Private Partnerships
Contra Costa County's Redevelopment Agency (RDA) has partnered with BART as well as private developers and investors since the early 1980's to bring Contra Costa Centre, a transit-oriented development (TOD), to life. The area was officially named Contra Costa Centre in 2005 and further cemented its identity in 2010 with the renaming of the Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre BART station.
Contra Costa Centre Transit Village sits on 125 acres in unincorporated Walnut Creek and features approximately 2.4 million square feet of existing Class A office/commercial space, two full-service hotels, 50,000 square feet of retail/restaurants and nearly 2,700 multi-family residential units. Employees, residents and visitors share the nearby Iron Horse Trail as well as over eight acres of green space. The Centre is easily accessible to all commuters as it encompasses the Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre BART station and is convenient to Interstate 680 and the county's main bus routes.
There are many companies that call Contra Costa Centre Transit Village their home. Just a few are AAA, John Muir Health Corporate Headquarters, PMI Group, Renaissance Club Sport and Avalon Walnut Creek.
Employee Programs Integral to Centre's Success
Partnering with Contra Costa County, the Centre develops and manages alternative commute options to alleviate single-occupancy vehicle traffic to and from the area. The programs include incentives for the more than 6,000 Centre employees to carpool or vanpool, ride the bus, take BART or bike to work. Guaranteed Ride Home, Mid-Day Shuttle Service and the Centre's progressive Green Fleet Program provide more services to commuters who choose to leave their cars at home.
In addition to commuter programs, Contra Costa Centre provides child care subsidies for eligible employees as well as a full-time Deputy Sheriff.
